Additional Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer

It's not news that lending a hand can make you feel good about yourself and your life.  But research now suggests that older people who give back have better physical and mental health and a lower mortality risk.  One study published in the Journal of Urban Health found that volunteers ages 60 through 86 who helped in Baltimore public elementary schools outscored their nonparticipating counterparts in both physical and cognitive ability.  The key is to volunteer in ways that seem meaningful to you, says Butler, of the National Institute on Aging.  (source: AARP 2008)

Serenity Hospice & Palliative Care

The word Hospice means, “a place of shelter for travelers on a difficult journey.” You can be the person who puts a smile on someone’s face, who encourages them and offers hope and peace to help the patient and family alike through that most difficult journey. We have volunteer opportunities in Sun City, Peoria, Sun City West and Surprise for people willing to offer respite for caregivers or to be a companion for the patient. Talking, listening, writing letters, light housekeeping, running errands, or just sharing humanity…our patients would be grateful for your presence! For more information call: 602-216-2273 or go to our website:

Ashton Ranch Elementary School

Make a difference in the lives of children by participating in the PTA for Ashton Ranch Elementary School. A common misconception of a PTA is that it includes only parents of attending students and the teachers of that school. On the contrary, the PTA can be any registered community member who would find satisfaction in assisting with fundraising and volunteer efforts.

To work directly with the children or at an event, one must go through a background check, pass a fingerprinting, attend an orientation and receive an official identification badge. For the less adventurous: one may become a PTA member for the school year who receives information about participating in fundraisers and receives a Mustang’s T-shirt with community discount card-simply register with the PTA welcome office!

If you would like to join the Ashton Ranch Elementary School PTA, please contact:

Nanette Burnett at 623-523-8336 or e-mail membership@ashtonranch.com

Grace Logo 005

Grace Hospice serves individuals who have a life-limiting illness and choose not to seek aggressive treatment.  We provide care where the patient lives, in their home, group home settings and inpatient units...throughout Maricopa County.  Our care is for those who would like their medical care to focus on managing symptoms and controlling pain.

Volunteers provide comfort and compassionate care to patients and families dealing with end of life issues.  They make visits to the home or group home for a few hours per week as their schedule allows.  All volunteers are provided with intensive training after completion of an interview and background check.

To volunteer visit our website at www.gracehospiceaz.com and complete the online application or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Alma Riedel, at 480-775-2599.
